.1 ASHA CEUs

As the demand for bilingual speech-language pathologists continues to grow nationwide, CSD programs must adapt to effectively train and supervise graduate students serving culturally and linguistically diverse populations. Bilingual students bring unique strengths to the field, yet they may also face distinct challenges: navigating dual language proficiency, balancing culturally responsive care, and meeting clinical competencies in both languages. This webinar explores supervision approaches that move beyond traditional monolingual frameworks, integrating evidence-based practices and real-world experiences. Participants will gain practical strategies, inclusive training models, and tools for supporting bilingual students’ clinical growth while meeting ASHA certification standards. The session will highlight practical strategies, clinical experience opportunities with bilingual populations, and culturally responsive supervision techniques. Attendees will gain actionable insights to develop or enhance bilingual training tracks within their own programs, addressing both pedagogical and supervisory aspects of preparing competent bilingual clinicians.

Learning Objectives

- Identify at least three challenges bilingual graduate students commonly face in CSD programs and explain their impact on clinical training.

- Summarize evidence-based and culturally responsive supervision models that move beyond monolingual frameworks.

- Apply practical strategies and tools to support bilingual students’ clinical skill development in both English and their additional language(s).

This course is designed with a participation requirement that ensures meaningful engagement and learning. Participants must be present for the entire 60-minute webinar to receive the assessment. The assessment is a key component in obtaining both their certificate of completion and ASHA CEUs. In addition to standard assessments of the speaker's effectiveness and the overall content quality, participants are challenged to demonstrate practical application of the knowledge gained. The required question prompts participants to articulate and list two specific action items they plan to implement. This promotes critical thinking about how to apply new information in their professional practice with a forward-thinking response.
