This presentation is intended to address the need for inclusive and effective disability accommodations in speech language pathology and audiology graduate programs. This session will explore the legal framework for inclusive accommodations necessary for students with disabilities and specific accommodations and support for CSD graduate students in clinical practice sites and didactic labs. Key principles of inclusive accommodations will be discussed. Challenges faced by educators will be addressed and audience participation will be encouraged. Content in this session is intended to help educators develop proactive approaches to identify how reasonable disability accommodations can be implemented in their programs. This presentation will offer guidance through relevant federal law, case studies from the Office for Civil Rights (OCR), and best practices identified within higher education. Attendees will be able to identify their role and responsibility in supporting classroom accommodation requests. Being an active participant in the interactive process, educators will be equipped to respond to accommodation requests while ensuring students are able to meet essential requirements of their program. This course is designed with a participation
requirement that ensures meaningful engagement and learning. Participants must
be present for the entire 60-minute webinar to receive the assessment. The
assessment is a key component in obtaining both their certificate of completion
and ASHA CEUs. In addition to standard assessments of the speaker's
effectiveness and the overall content quality, participants are challenged to
demonstrate practical application of the knowledge gained. The required
question prompts participants to articulate and list two specific action items
they plan to implement. This promotes critical thinking about how to apply new
information in their professional practice with a forward-thinking response.
